About me
Dr Nica Coxon has a background in Primary Care Sciences (with her PhD focusing on epidemiology and psychology). She undertook an Arthritis UK funded PhD at Keele University looking at patient decision-making and patient preferences for managing Osteoarthritis within general practice.
She has lived in Scotland since 2013 and worked a research fellow at the University of Edinburgh and currently working as a senior lecturer. She has a growing experience of teaching within medical education and is also a qualified Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist and Counsellor who works privately with clients in Edinburgh.
For many years with my private clients in Edinburgh I have worked with relationship issues, communication struggles, codependency, separation anxiety and attachment work.
I became a therapist because when I was a young girl my parents divorced and due to this early trauma I found I struggled in my relationships as I chose men whom were like my father. My father was absent physically and emotionally and I found I was repeating this pattern when I chose a partner, so I wanted to heal myself such that I could go on to have healthy relationships. Studying counselling and psychotherapy for 3 years at Edinburgh helped me to do that and I am currently in a health relationship. My own personal experience of healing has helped me to go onto help others on their healing journey.
Overall, based on my own personal experience and working with clients I have developed good insight into how CPTSD can be healed based on the way that we talk to ourselves, and heal our inner child.
