----- Student Testimonial -----

“With the Online Fundraising Bootcamp, we were able to determine where we need to be and were given a road map to help us get there through the Fundraising Campaign Workbook.

The most helpful information was how to design, write, and prepare communications for your donors and a schedule of optimal time to send emails.

Everything you need to be a more effective fundraiser
is outlined with specific examples to get your mind thinking in the right direction about how these fundraising skills can work for your organization and benefit those you serve.”
Tressie Seegers - The Austin Harmony Project

Section 1: Pre-Training
12:05

You may have to convince others, or even yourself, that the effort to fundraise online will be worth it. We walk through recent studies and efforts in other arenas to illustrate how important an online presence can be.

Links mentioned in the Video:

*Note:  The research mentioned in the video is from 2011-2012, but the links above go to the latest versions of those reports (2012-2013)
As mentioned we are in the process of creating v. 2.0 of the course and will be updating all of the research to the latest statistics.  However, you should know that all of the trends discussed are still relevant today and most of the time even more so then before.

Action Steps

  • Watch the video to learn why online fundraising is vital to your fundraising efforts
  • If a co-worker or board member has qualms about online fundraising, consider sharing the discussed studies.
14:02
There are many myths and misconceptions about online fundraising.  Today’s lesson will explore some of those myths and set the record straight.

Action Steps

  • Ask yourself – Does your organization believe any of these myths, even a little?
  • Ask yourself – Are there other beliefs about online fundraising that seem to be holding your organization back? If so, please share these in the comments section.
  • Use the information to educate and advocate for online fundraising within your organization

09:04
Don’t reinvent the wheel!  In the lesson below we talk about some great places to learn from others and how to apply that to our work in the nonprofit sector.

Links discussed in the video:

Action Steps

  • Where does your organization look for ideas?
  • Identify one source of ideas in each of the 3 areas discussed.
  • Watch at least one “infomercial” (link above will take you to some).  What ideas or tactics do you think can be used in online fundraising?  (We will discuss some of these in the Fundraising Strategies module).

13:20
Saving time can be just as important as raising money. We’ll show you how to do both by learning from the work of others in several different areas.

Links from the video:

Action Steps

08:54
How can you know if what you are doing is working? Test, test, and test some more. Did we mention test?

* More on testing and ROI in Section 5

Action Steps

  • Identify which members of your organization you might need to involve in future testing.
  • Start a running list of ideas and areas that you might want to test (email subject lines, donation amounts, etc.).  We will be using this list in later lessons.
  • Make a commitment to start testing in your organization.

Section 2: Introduction
09:15

  • Think about what would be needed to move your organization to the next level.
  • Commit to focus on the fundamentals and building a strong foundation.

12:07
Everyone knows that the more technology tools you have, the better. Right? Wrong! Here are the four foundational tools and what they can do for your organization.

Action Steps

  • Review your current online tools.
  • Do you already have tools to cover the Foundational Four?
  • For each item, ask yourself if you are satisfied with the current structure. If not, list what changes would be needed to make that item “good enough.”
  • Use the next lessons to find the tools you need.

13:12
Once you are ready to build upon your foundation, where do you go to learn about additional tools? How do you make a decision among the many tools available? We’ll point you to helpful resources and provide a framework for making these big decisions.

Links mentioned in the video:

Action Steps

If you don’t currently have one of the Foundational Four tools, begin a process to research and acquire those tools
  • Watch the next lesson on Our Recommended Tools

  • Ask colleagues and friends for recommendations
  • Check online reviews and articles at the links in the Resource Section aboveIf you are working with a consultant, ask if they prefer using particular tools.
