This course does not get into the mechanics of writing your ebook; there are lots of fantastic and very comprehensive resources to help accomplish this. However, I do point out the 10 important elements that can ensure that you connect deeply with your readers and leave lasting impressions with your writing.

As you will discover in this video, it is possible to "tag onto" competitors books that are best-selling and ride a FREE promo wave to get into the coveted "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" section to increase downloads of your book. On the Amazon ebook marketplace, competitors really can be your friend. Remember, people who like certain genres such as romance, thrillers or mysteries read TONS OF THEM and are constantly looking for and buying new books.

MISTAKE #2: Competitors As Friends?

You've spent copious amounts of time writing and editing your book, and now it's ready for publication, congratulations! However, don't make the mistake of rushing through uploading your book, without doing the necessary research and marketing pre-publishing work required. It only takes an hour or two and can make a big difference in your sales.

**BONUS** I've created for you a handy eBook Research spreadsheet + an eBook Research Companion file. These files guide you to do your research, save tons of time, and make sure that you don't miss important steps!
MISTAKE#3-No Amazon Research

This lesson takes you through more ways to conduct research for your own book, including demonstrations for using valuable tools such as the Amazon Tag Cloud, Amazon Leading Indicators and the importance of doing a thorough competitive title analysis. By following the screenshots shown (using romance and children's books as examples), you can easily prepare your book prior to uploading it via Amazon KDP to have the most competitive advantage possible.

**BONUS** Use the handy spreadsheets included that guide you along through this process, taking the guesswork out of these necessary and important steps, and saving tons of time!

MISTAKE#4-No MORE Research

It is always important to choose a title and sub-title that closely matches your book and is for humans first and foremost, and not search engines. However, using the techniques demonstrated, you can find a title that satisfies both! This module takes you through how to conduct research using the Google Keyword Tool and picking keywords to incorporate into your title that also bring low competition, highly searched "long tail keywords or phrases."

You can also sprinkle these phrases throughout your blog, site or Facebook page to enable people to find your book more easily.

**BONUS** I know doing research exercises may not be the most exciting aspects of publishing a book, but they are very necessary! For relief, I have included some fun examples at the end of this lecture, along with uplifting French Waltz music. Hit the Mute buttton if you don't like :-)
MISTAKE #5: Unoptimized Title + No Google Research

Digital content is primarily found where? O-N-L-I-N-E!! So authors need to be internet marketing savvy in order to reach and engage with audiences via blogs, websites and social media pages.

**BONUS** Once again, I demonstrate examples of authors doing excellent things online with their blogs, sites, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter pages. Set to uplifting French Waltz music (mais oui!).
MISTAKE #6: Not Internet Marketing Savvy

A book IS judged by it's cover! In this lecture, we discuss the all-important "top fold" factor. This is the first and top part of your book description page on Amazon, without having to scroll down. Learn what must be in the top fold in order to "hook" readers into downloading a sample of your book, or better yet, buying it immediately. You've only got 30 seconds to hook and hold a potential buyer, so make it count!

**BONUS** Examples of fantastic covers and author images are shown, set to music of course (wink).
MISTAKE #7: Bad Book Cover

There is one purpose and one only for a book description: to get people to TAKE ACTION! Your book description should sizzle and should compulsively lead a reader to not be able to stand it if they can't find out more. So they just HAVE TO download a sample or outright purchase your book immediately.

Learn exactly what to do and what not to do for your description and see some different styles that authors use.

**BONUS** Anyone Can Write details how anybody can write anything, quickly and effectively! Just follow the guidelines and you'll be on your way to writing sizzling copy that gets the job done.

MISTAKE #8: Weak Book Description

When people hit the "Click To Look Inside" feature of your book, they can scroll through the first 10 or more pages of your book. If your book is badly formatted, the reader will immediately click away quickly and move on to find a more pleasing book. Don't let this happen to you!

Learn what you need to know about formatting your book for digital and how to find a trust-worthy professional to help with your conversion needs.

**FUTURE COURSE ALERT!** Getting an eBook converted for digital platforms is one of the biggest challenges for authors, so I am working on a course that walks you through, step-by-step, how to convert your Word document perfectly to a number of different formats. Best of all, my techniques use free tools and don't require a high degree of technical ability.
MISTAKE #9: Poor Digital Conversion

This one page visual details the different hats authors must wear, and constantly change throughout the entire ebook process! But don't worry, it's fun because you get to be a Promoter, a PR Maven, a Sales Pro and a Social Media Guru. Marketing and selling your book is never boring, that's for sure!

Karen Henrich is a best-selling Amazon author, and her first iTunes app was featured prominently by Apple. Her self-publishing journey started in 2009 after pestering her Parisian publisher as to when her guidebook would go digital. Eventually this disappointing response came in: "Sorry, I haven't got a clue how to do this." So she took her book back!

Armed with strong coffee and a tech/marketing/PR background, she mastered the complexities of digital publishing. Her goal now is to help as many authors as possible to self-publish successfully right out of the gate, and increase their digital content net worth. PRACTICAL PARIS: Everything You Need to Know About Paris But Didn't Know To Ask has consistently been in the Top 100 in its niche and several best-seller categories since 2010.

After a 20 year career in technology, PR/marketing and entrepreneurship, Henrich boldly moved to Paris, France in 2005 upon being struck by a coup de foudre (love at first sight) on a first holiday visit to the City of Light. She started a boutique tour company (Nuit Blanche Tours) and as a result of touring hundreds of visitors around Paris, began writing travel and shopping guides. Just like infamous writers who have paved the way and offered inspiration such as Ernest Hemingway, Anaïs Nin and Gertrude Stein, she largely wrote her guides in Parisian cafés.

Henrich's adventures have been prominently written about in More Magazine, Expatica, National newspapers across Canada, Journeywoman, BonjourParis and other travel authorities. She is also a writer for travel publications, and has contributed to a best-selling National Geographic travel book.
