What Students Are Saying:
I am so thankful this course was available as it saved me hours and hours of working out the Divi way of doing things. Clear explanations and examples meant I started and got it all to work in less than a day, quite an achievement for a technophobe like me. I have copied the fonts, colours etc as this is the bit I really struggle with. Good tips and new techniques for using colours and fonts MANY THANKS!" -Leap Training Institute

Welcome to the course. In this lecture I'll go over what is covered in this course and who would most benefit from it.
This text lecture talks more about what's inside the course and better explains how to get the most out of it.
In this lesson we'll take a look at our old or current website and think about what is currently working and what is not. What do we want our new site to do for us that our current site is not doing already? If we are clear on our future website goals we will more easily be able to move forward and save time and tears in the process by planning now rather than later.
In this lecture, students can tell us who they are, what sort of website they have, and what they are hoping to keep, add, or change to achieve their dream website.
This is a step-by-step diary of the process of completely redesigning my website in August and September of 2015. Use it to help jumpstart YOUR process and see what you need to think about before, during, and after giving your website a makeover.
If you are thinking of using the Elegant Theme Divi or any Elegant Theme in WordPress, it's also loaded with resources and links to tutorials, podcasts, articles and more that you will find helpful.
Here we are going to think about what content we want to have on our new website and what we DON'T want. We are also going to then organize this content to make it easy to find, logical, and user-friendly for our website visitors.
In this lecture we will discuss the all important vibe and tone of your entire site and how to go about deciding what that is. We'll also talk a bit about color choices, fonts, layouts, and imagery.
In this lesson I'll show you where you can easily preview other WordPress themes from inside your WordPress dashboard. I'll also discuss what I did to help myself make the decision to use Divi and select templates from their library to use as a basis for my own pages.
This action plan will help ground your thinking as you get started planning and creating your new website.
In this lesson our new theme has been activated and we have lots of issues to address to make our website go from Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan. Here we will make sure our logo and favicon are showing up properly.
In this lesson we will remove unwanted pages from our main menu and make sure our primary menu looks like the one we planned in our navigation chart.
In this lesson we'll get started making a brand new static page that will become our new home page and have a quick look at the Divi Builder vs. the Default WordPress Editor.
In this lesson, students will learn how to load a preexisting template and about their many template options that come with the Divi theme.
In this lesson we'll start to set up our new homepage from the Divi Homepage Company template. I won't fuss too much over it just yet. At the moment the priority is to ensure it's working and to set up our new homepage as a static front page using the Divi Theme Customizer.
In this lesson I'll show you how I set up my homepage slider and discuss a few time-saving tips such as ensuring all your images you are using are already saved for the web and have small file sizes.
In this lesson, I'll show you the state of my website after the first day of giving it a makeover with an overview on what I had done so far and what I needed to work on next.
In this lesson we'll go have a look and make sure your WordPress settings are ideal for your new website. I'll also show you where you can add in your social media page URL's so you can activate those icons in your header or footer should you so choose to do so.
In this lecture is where we finally get our hands on our fonts, color scheme, layouts, button styles and more. I'll show you how to set those and then set you loose to customize your site to your heart's content.
In this lecture, I'll give you the quick rundown on how Divi blurbs work and show you how I used them on my homepage.
In this lesson I'll walk you through making a full portfolio slider and also show you how to add projects to it so you can actually fill it with content. I'll also show you what I did and how I used this feature on my own homepage.
In this lecture we'll go over how to use Divi's image module, adjusting settings, and other best practices.
In this lesson we'll go over some best practices for soliciting and setting up testimonials as well as how to easily add testimonials to your webpage using Divi's cool testimonial module.
In this lesson I will discuss what you need to have in place in order to set up a mailing list subscribe form as well as some best practices for enticing visitors on your site to subscribe to your mailing list. We'll go through the newsletter signup form module and discuss the settings and ways to test it.
In this lesson, I'll show you how to use one of Divi's pre-existing about page templates. I'll also show you how I made my own about page by not using a template, but rather custom dragging and dropping various Divi modules to get the look and feel I wanted.
In this lesson I'll show you how I used the Divi contact page template and made my own custom contact page. I'll show you how the map module, social media follow module, text module, and contact form module work.
In this lesson we'll go over how to adjust your sidebar and/or footers. I'll also talk about the widgets I am currently using and where I got them.
This lecture talks about the benefits of the Bloom plugin for creating opt-in subscribe forms. I also show you how I made mine and the various settings and features of the plugin.
In this lecture, I'll show you how and where I used Social Media follow and share functions. Some are widgets, some are standard in the Divi footer or available as a module, and yet others are through the powerful social media sharing plugin, Monarch via Elegant Themes. I'll show you how to set up your Monarch plugin and what it can do so you can be better informed as you plan your social media sharing and follow buttons strategy moving forward.
A student in this course recently asked how I set up my blog and if I use Divi Builder or not. I use the default editor for my blog posts, mainly because I thought it would look weird if my new posts used the Divi Builder but my many old posts did not. I didn't want to convert each one either and so using the default editor was the most simple, clean, and quick option. In this lesson I'll show you how I make blog posts with the default editor as well as how to make a Blog page that compiles your posts using Divi Builder.
***Update: In January of 2016 I ended up making my blog page with the Divi blog page template, mainly because it worked better with a layout change I made site-wide (moved my sidebar to the left instead of to the right.)
This case study from January 2016 gets more into how I chose specific colors for my own personal website based on what I know about color psychology when I was redesigning it recently. It can also help you avoid some common design mistakes.
Is your website performing at its
highest level and gaining you clicks, sales, engagement, followers, and
working hard on your behalf 24 hours a day?
This NEW course is for anyone who is looking to get more out of their existing website, who would like an easy step by step plan of action for maximizing their website's impact, regardless of which tools, platforms, or themes they are using. In particular this course is for people who are NOT coders, professional web developers, or programmers who would like to learn easy, reliable, and measurable ways to boost their website's impact.
This is a big list of free resources you can use for your creative projects.
In this lesson I will explain the options available for updating to the latest version of Divi. Please note that if you are not comfortable using an FTP program (in my case I use Adobe Dreamweaver) you can also hire a reputable and top-rated professional at Fiverr.com to do this step for you.
Otherwise, if you are comfortable with FTP, just follow along as I download the new Divi from Elegant Themes' website and then upload to my WP-Content-> Themes folder on my remote server. Finally, I go back into the WordPress dashboard, click on "Appearance" -> "Themes" and activate Divi 3.0 there.
Please see the downloadable resource for free tutorials on this if you need help.
In this lesson I'll show you an easier way to fix and customize your footer using the Theme Customizer.
In this lesson I'll show you how easy it is to get started editing your pages and posts in real time using the Divi Visual Builder. I'll also show you how to solve that stubborn problem of not seeing your changes go live after you've made them. Deleting cache to the rescue! (I use the WordPress plugin, WP Fastest Cache...)
In this lesson I'll show a bit more of the visual builder and how quick and easy it is to edit content in real time.
