Graduated from Kyoto University's Faculty of Science with a degree in physics in 2006 and obtained a doctoral degree in statistics from the Graduate University for Advanced Studies in 2010. Served as a visiting researcher at both UC Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon University, and worked on the development of Alexa at Amazon's Seattle office. Currently residing in Hawaii.
