About me
Hi, I’m Tom Liao. I teach practical courses on generative AI, OpenAI APIs, C#/.NET, software development, and project management for learners who want to turn technical concepts into real-world solutions.
I bring more than 25 years of cross-industry experience in enterprise software, information technology, project governance, process improvement, business operations, and technology management, including over 15 years in management and leadership roles.
Throughout my career, I have worked across many different functions, from financial auditing and systems engineering to software development, enterprise IT, project management, consulting, and executive management. This broad background helps me connect technology with the bigger picture: business needs, user requirements, system design, project delivery, risk, governance, and organizational change.
Over the past several years, my professional work has increasingly focused on generative AI because the projects I have been involved in have centered on enterprise AI adoption, model evaluation and selection, and the practical application of AI in business systems and workflows. These projects require more than choosing a powerful model. They also involve understanding the business problem, evaluating data and deployment requirements, considering technical constraints and risks, and determining how AI can deliver real value in an organization.
This experience has reinforced an important principle that I bring into my teaching: technology should not be studied in isolation. To build a useful AI solution, you need to understand not only how the model or API works, but also why you are using it, how it fits into the overall solution, and what can go wrong during implementation.
I have also designed and delivered corporate training on agile project management, Lessons Learned, effort and schedule management, and cross-functional collaboration. My Udemy courses have reached more than 3,100 learners across 119 countries. I develop each course independently, including the learning structure, technical research, presentation materials, C# examples, hands-on demonstrations, recording, and subtitles.
In my courses, I do more than show you which button to click or which lines of code to copy. I explain why a solution is designed a certain way, how its components work together, what common mistakes to avoid, and how to apply the same thinking to real projects. My goal is to make complex topics easier to understand without removing the practical details that matter.
I hold PMP, PMI-ACP, and PMI-PBA certifications, as well as ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Lead Auditor and ISO/IEC 27005 Lead Auditor credentials. I also earned an MBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Dallas.
Beyond Udemy, I regularly publish articles on LinkedIn about AI applications, project management, and practical technology implementation. On my YouTube channel, I share short and straightforward software development demonstrations. You are welcome to follow me on LinkedIn and YouTube to explore additional articles, examples, and hands-on learning content.
If you are looking for courses that combine clear explanations, practical development, and real-world business and project experience, I hope my courses will help you build useful skills, avoid common mistakes, and move from simply understanding a technology to applying it with confidence.
