Hi, I'm Kristie Fogarty, PMP, CAPM, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2. I have over 20 years experience in project management and more than a decade specializing in PMI Exam Preparation Training. In that time, I've helped hundreds of professionals apply, study, and prepare for a range of PMI certifications.
PMP is by far the most popular, and the toughest. Being a great project manager isn't enough; you need to understand PMI's language, definitions, and you need solid exam-taking skills. "Winging it" is almost always a fast track to failure. With the right guidance, the path becomes clear, structured, and absolutely achievable.
A common misunderstanding is the PMP exam is based on the PMBOK guide, when in fact it's based on an exam content outline (ECO) that is updated every 5-7 years based on feedback from global businesses. While the PMBOK is leveraged, the exam content also utilizes additionally ~8 books/repositories.
Simply reading/watching content is not enough to pass the exam. That would be similar to learning to run a marathon by watching You Tube videos. If you want to run a marathon, you need to run. If you want to pass the PMP exam, you need to practice exam questions.
One of the biggest learning hurdles I've seen over the past decade, is people not reading the question correctly. I know that sounds silly and simple, but it trips up at least half of my classroom or live virtual students every time. So I've included a module that covers how to read the questions explicitly and instantly rule out 1-2 answers because they do not belong. Some students call it a short-cut, others call it strategy, - I simply think it's being smart.
So what are you waiting for? The right time, less stress, after a big go-live is finished. Those opportunities rarely exist, so commit, and take the next step to growing your career.
