Vitalii Dets — Artist, Educator, Innovator
Vitalii Dets (born 1981) is a Ukrainian watercolor artist and educator known for developing a breakthrough method that enables complete beginners to create their first painting in a single day. He pioneered this approach in Ukraine, and since 2005 more than 10,000 people have painted their first artwork in his studio. With 20 years of teaching experience, he is now considered one of the most influential watercolor instructors in the country.
He is the author of the best-selling Watercolor Trip book series and the inventor of innovative watercolor sketchbooks designed to make learning easier and more intuitive. His contribution to art education earned him recognition as a TOYP Ukraine 2014 finalist.
Vitalii has held exhibitions in France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Ukraine, sharing his artistic perspective internationally. His courses blend practical structure with creative freedom, making complex watercolor techniques simple even for complete beginners.
A significant influence in his artistic development is Andrii Gerasimyuk, one of the top watercolorists in the world (top 20 globally). The discipline and insight learned from Gerasimyuk shape the core of Vitalii’s teaching philosophy—clarity, confidence, and the joy of creating from the very first brushstroke. The collaboration with Gerasimyuk led to the creation of Vitalii’s first book, “Watercolor Trip to Italy” (2016), followed by “Watercolor Trip to France” and “Watercolor Trip to Spain,” along with detailed video courses. These projects combine Gerasimyuk’s artistic mastery with Vitalii’s structural clarity, helping thousands of new artists learn watercolor quickly, confidently, and with genuine enjoyment.
Since 2000, Vitalii has produced over 800 oil paintings, many of which are now held in private collections across Europe. He also holds degrees in management and marketing from leading institutions in Berlin and Ukraine, speaks seven languages, and plays both guitar and piano. His fast-learning method has helped him excel in diverse fields, from sculpture and web design to real estate development and gymnastics. The impact of his one-day learning method sparked a nationwide movement—between 2005 and 2022, over one million Ukrainians tried painting at least once, inspired by this accessible approach. He has led master classes in Italy, Germany, and Spain, continuing to spread his method internationally.
