Vickie, a speech-language pathologist, conducted hearing screenings in schools as one of her duties. Many kids missed hearing lower-frequency sounds. Several of the children who failed the hearing screenings were also failing to read and spell on grade level. When researching further she learned they often had histories of middle ear infections before starting school.
For the next several years, she researched programs for struggling readers and spellers. She found programs that were too time-consuming or costly to use in schools, but knew something more needed to be done to improve reading and spelling skills besides the programs already in place. Kids in K-12 needed practical, affordable, short lessons two to four times a week addressing the way their brains were processing sounds and auditory information.
Vickie's method, course, and books, born from her research and training as a speech-language pathologist, significantly helped over 300 children. Improving their reading and spelling skills increased their confidence.
She worked in Lynn Indiana, Middletown, Ohio and Morrow, Ohio.
Vickie's work continues to bring hope to many. She shares her methods and materials with homeschool parents through her online course at Udemy, website, books, and personal coaching sessions with homeschool parents and workshops for homeschool co-op groups.
