Wangui Mwangi is an Interior Designer, TEDx speaker, green building consultant, and one of Africa's leading advocates for biophilia and nature-centred design. She is the creator of one of the first African-centred Biophilia courses, NATURE-CENTERED DESIGN COURSE-BIOPHILIA IN AN AFRICAN LENS, FOUND ON PAYHIP WEBSITE, developed to connect global biophilic design principles with Africa's rich ecological wisdom, cultural heritage, and vernacular building traditions.
She is the Founder of Green Biophilic Living and the Founding Chair of the Green Biophilic Living Society (GBLS), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing biophilic thinking, Indigenous ecological knowledge, and nature-centred development across Africa. Wangui is also the Convener of the Africa Biophilic Building Conference & Expo, a growing continental platform that brings together architects, designers, planners, health professionals, policymakers, researchers, Indigenous knowledge holders, and business leaders to explore how nature and culture can shape the future of African cities and communities.
Professionally, Wangui serves as a Senior Superintendent Designer (Interior Design) within Kenya's public sector and is an EDGE Green Building Expert certified by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Her work focuses on sustainable buildings, healthy interiors, climate resilience, and the integration of nature into the built environment.
Through her courses, speaking engagements, research, and advocacy, Wangui is championing a vision of development that is rooted in nature, inspired by culture, and designed for life. Her teaching combines practical design strategies, scientific research, storytelling, and African perspectives to help learners create spaces that support both human wellbeing and ecological health.
Whether you are a designer, student, developer, sustainability professional, or simply curious about the relationship between people and nature, Wangui's goal is to make biophilia accessible, practical, and transformative.
