From her career to her attire, and implementation of old cultural habits in her everyday life, Veezy is often called an “old soul.” She primarily works as a saxophonist around WV, KY, and OH. The Flood donates to various organizations and has played for market events at places like Heritage Station in Huntington, WV.
The Ashland Daily Independent interviewed Veezy for a top-featured news article about herself and The Flood. Lee Ward, author of the news article ‘Flood adds jazzy new member’, explained Charlie Bowen’s view about Veezy with the following quote: “Band member Charlie Bowen described her first session with the band… ‘Veezy has been a bright light, enhancing everything we play…’”
Veezy’s music career started during her junior year of high school at a bakery in Ashland Kentucky. Veezy strives to build an environment that centers around America’s past music and culture. She has received a formal jazz education under the instruction of Bob Thompson and Marshall University. Veezy is currently a senior at MU with a dual major degree path in Jazz Studies and Entrepreneurship. With a specific love for Dixieland Music, Swing, and Bossa Nova, Veezy’s jazz heroes are folks like Gerry Mulligan, Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, Bix Beiderbecke, The Duke Ellington Band, and Ella Fitzgerald.
In April of 2022, Veezy released her first jazz album, ‘Pinstripe’, which is comprised of 9 of her original jazz songs. Styles in the album include - but are not limited to - light swing, Latin jazz, contemporary, and blues.
In August of 2022, Veezy will release a second album, ‘Brave Brigade Pirate’, which is a folk album comprised of 12 original songs. The songs are all done on guitar, ukulele, and voice. Styles in the album heavily tribute to European and Hawaiian folk.
Apart from her public shows and traveling, Veezy offers virtual and live music lessons for both classical and jazz students of all ages. When Veezy is not doing music, she writes her own literary works and runs a craft business with her sister. Her business, La bonne affaire du Madrigal, centers around original literary works, old-world crafts, and music. Veezy is a published Christian author. Look to Autumn, Starlight in Spring, and As the Day Recedes are all available on Amazon.
Veezy got her nickname at one of the first restaurants who hired her. The barista, a spirited woman named Heather, nicknamed Veezy.
