About me
Hi! I'm Sarah Templeton, M.Mus., GCFPcm. I have been studying and teaching movement and voice for over 25 years. I use my training in the Feldenkrais® Method and in vocal technique to empower my students to overcome difficulties, and to live their lives with more choice and greater joy. My course An Introduction to Feldenkrais®, Part 1: Get Back Up! gives you strategies for moving from lying on your back, to sitting, to standing. These lessons can help you improve your balance; lessen or eliminate chronic pain; improve your performance in dance, sports, martial arts, or music; and become more resilient in the face of life’s challenges, both physically and mentally. Also, I’ve discovered that not everyone can master meditation that is based on being asked to ‘relax’ or ‘calm your mind’. So, through trial and error, working with and overcoming my own struggles with anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain; and working with my own Feldenkrais® and voice students, I have devised a way of meditating (Movement Meditation with Sarah) that uses small, gentle movements of the body to calm the nervous system and increase joy and optimism. My lessons in An Introduction to the Feldenkrais® Method for Singers are a powerful tool to expand your repertoire of movement, and find a new way to break through your limitations as a singer. My lessons in all of these courses do not use music, as I have found background music to be more of a distraction than a help to many people; and I intentionally use humour and light-heartedness, which I've come to understand is what allows learning and habit-changing to occur most easily. I have taught the Feldenkrais® Method at the prestigious Stratford Festival of Canada, and have taught Feldenkrais® and acting technique to students of both the Vancouver Academy of Music and the University of British Columbia’s Opera Division. I've given many workshops in ‘Feldenkrais® for Singers’ at Western University’s Faculty of Music, and have taught courses in singing, speech, movement, and acting at Fanshawe College’s Theatre Arts Department in London, Canada. I have a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. I run an active online teaching studio of both Feldenkrais® and singing students. After living in Toronto, New York, Florence, Santo Domingo, Vancouver, and Frankfurt, I have now moved back to the eternally optimistic and laughter-loving culture of Newfoundland, Canada.
