Dr. Sam Smith is an engineering researcher and educator whose work sits at the intersection of structural engineering, coastal and marine infrastructure, and machine learning. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Princeton University. His research spans wave–structure interaction, simulation–experiment validation using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), and machine learning-based prediction of structural response and wave pressure distributions. His work has resulted in peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences.

At Princeton University, Dr. Smith taught engineering courses for over four years, instructing more than 400 students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His teaching emphasized rigorous theoretical foundations alongside structured, hands-on learning experiences.

One of his research projects, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), focused on wave-structure interaction and involved experimental campaigns conducted in large-scale wave flume facilities.
