Rena's musical journey has spanned over 20 years and counting, starting with classical piano from a very young age. Over the years, she also has formal training for singing and the harp. In addition, she had many opportunities throughout her schooling years to explore and/or perform in an Angklung & Kulintang ensemble, Indonesian Gamelan, Malay Kompang, Japanese music, and percussion ensemble.
She believes that music is a universal language for everyone and one does not need to understand difficult music theory and jargon in order to appreciate music on a deeper level. This belief was further strengthened when she had to find a way to teach music to special needs students in a way that was enjoyable and engaging without them having to perform difficult repertoire. The main method used was active listening.
Now, she hopes to spread the message that anyone can develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the music just by listening.
