I have three things I am passionate about; teaching (which I have done now for 20 years), soap making, and crocheting. I started knitting and crocheting when I was 12 years old, over 48 years ago. I enjoyed both, but over time, I gravitated to primarily continuing to pursue crochet. For the past 10 years, I have used both my passion for teaching and crocheting to inspire mothers who had pre-teen and teenage children, in developing their sense of creativity and provide them with a beneficial outlet or pathway for that youthful anxious energy. They bonded more through a shared experience....... the love of crochet!
The benefits of having a hobby, such as crochet, are easily identifiable for those who are coping with anxiety, depression, arthritis, attention deficits, memory losses, and digestive issues to name but a few. Crochet teaches you patience which results in controlling the hyper active mind, lowering blood pressure, easing or eliminating stress impacting digestion and bringing a sense of calm or peace to you. Beside the physiological rewards to having a hobby like crochet or knitting, over time, you open the creative centers of the mind, which lead to the production of beautiful creations and a sense of accomplishment. Even if you never sell or give away any of your creations, using or wearing those fantastic things you have made, is satisfying all by itself.
My goal, is to pour into you what I have learned about exploring your creative genius through crochet. Remember, all things have a beginning and kindling the "Crocheting Genius" inside, begins when you do.
If there were ANY warnings to be issued about crocheting, I would say mine would be....crocheting is a fun, relaxing inexpensive enjoyment that can consume you if you are undisciplined. Meaning, there is far more to your life than your hobby or employment, so don't forget to live it.
