Nimisha Roy is a Lecturer in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and the CS Capstone sequence. She also teaches in Georgia Tech’s Online Master of Science in Analytics (OMSA) program and has mentored students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
She earned her Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2021. Her current work focuses on integrating generative AI into computer science education in thoughtful and responsible ways. She designs curricula that help students build strong technical foundations while learning how to effectively collaborate with AI tools in modern software development.
She has received multiple recognitions for teaching and innovation, including the William D. “Bill” Leahy Jr. Outstanding Instructor Award and the Provost Teaching & Learning Fellowship at Georgia Tech. She was also named among the Top 75 Indian Women Leaders in Geotechnical Engineering (Indian Geotechnical Society, 2023) and was shortlisted for the QS Reimagine Education Awards (2025) for her work in AI-driven education and administration.
Her teaching philosophy is simple: AI is a multiplier — it strengthens strong fundamentals and exposes gaps when they’re missing. This belief inspired the Generative AI Coding Readiness Check (Java) course, designed to help developers assess and strengthen their core programming skills before fully relying on AI tools.
