About me
The First Encounter
“What on earth are these people talking about?” That was my first reaction to philosophy—and maybe it’s yours too. I recall sitting in my first philosophy class in the 1990s at Frankfurt University, utterly baffled. Philosophy felt entirely incomprehensible. But it doesn’t need to be. With the right guidance, it becomes not just understandable, but deeply rewarding.
Banking by Day, Philosophy by Passion
Philosophy has been my great passion. I pursued it alongside a demanding career as a director in an international bank in the City of London. I began formal studies with a 3-year distance-learning programme at Oxford University, earning a Certificate of Higher Education in Philosophy. That experience changed everything. I went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London during the pandemic, followed by a Master of Research in Philosophy degree at the same institution.
A Leap into the Unknown
In April 2024, I made a life-changing decision: I left my corporate role to dedicate myself fully to philosophy. I spent nearly a year travelling across Southeast Asia—reflecting, writing, and laying the groundwork for this course.
Not a Professor—A Fellow Enthusiast
I’m not a professor, not even a lecturer—I’m a fellow enthusiast. My ambition is to make Philosophy accessible to a wider audience. I’m less interested in hairsplitting academic arguments (though they can be fun too!) and more drawn to the history of thought—the big picture, the broad outlines.
Plato, Socrates, and the Spark
I’m an avid reader of ancient philosophy, especially Plato and those who came before him, like ... Socrates. Originally, I set out to write a course on Plato. But I kept bumping into Socrates. I realised that to understand Plato, there’s no way around Socrates. And the more I learned about Socrates, the more thrilled I became. His life, his method, his questions—they’re as alive today as they were in ancient Athens.
Along the way, I gathered insights that I wish someone had shared with me when I was starting out. That’s why I created this course—not just to teach, but to guide. I want to help you embark on your own philosophical journey more efficiently and effectively, without the confusion and detours I once faced.
Learning to Teach
And yes, I had to learn video production from scratch. From lighting setups to editing software, it’s been a journey of its own. But I wanted this course to feel personal, clear, and inviting—so I rolled up my sleeves and made it happen.
Philosophy with Feta
As I worked through the various domains of Philosophy, I realised that I have a soft spot for Ancient Philosophy, not least because it gives me good excuses to hop on a plane and fly to Athens.
I get to wander through the Agora where Socrates ambushed unsuspecting citizens with his questions, stroll through the shady groves of the Academy (yes, that’s the original name of Plato’s school), gaze at the Acropolis, eat olives and drink retsina under the blazing sun, listen to Greek music, and get gloriously carried away by life in modern-day Athens. Philosophy, it turns out, pairs beautifully with feta.
Your Journey Starts Here
My courses are designed to equip you with tools to continue your own philosophical journey. Whether you’re just starting out or rekindling an old interest, you’ll find a space here to explore, reflect, and grow.
Let’s walk this path together—and see where the questions take us.
