I'm all about learning and learning technologies
I'm the Learning Technologies Lead at Synapsys NZ Ltd. We're all about people and performance! I'm a learning specialist who believe that learning is pervasive and evolves just like people.
I started out my career as a secondary school teacher in England, teaching science for five years before joining the Navy as a Training Manager and then an Education Officer in the RNZN. During my time in the Navy I covered every aspect of training and education, working as an instructor, instructional designer, quality control and technology based trainer.
I left the Navy to work for the ambulance service in New Zealand, firstly in charge of training at the communication centres nationally and then as the Quality Manager before leaving to get back to my passion of learning.
In 2011 I moved to a learning solutions company, Kineo, as their Learning Technologies Manager for four years before starting my own company Kanuka Consulting with my wife Kim. Kim's an experienced HR Manager so between us we've got a large amount of experience in dealing with and helping out managers with learning, coaching and support and we are keen to share what we know and what we've experienced with as wide an audience as possible.
I started my own company Kanuka Consulting in 2015 before joining the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic (later Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology) as the Manager for Quality, Teaching and Learning and then later in 2017 starting to work for Synapsys.
I blog under The Nth Degree and have given key-notes and appeared on expert panels in both New Zealand and Australia principally around learning and learning technologies.
I live in Christchurch, New Zealand with my family.
