My first three years in sales, I hated it. I never hit quota, and believe it or not I never even made a sale.
I was “cold calling people I didn’t know, to pitch things I didn’t care about, to people who weren’t interested”. That is a particularly exasperating and difficult experience.
I left sales in 2017 “for good” and vowed that I’d never again work in sales. I was unemployed for 11 months, trying to do anything besides sales, walk dogs, teach english classes online, be a camp counselor.
That year of my life was exhausting. Out of desperation, I got back into sales “just to pay the bills”, but this time I started investing in coaching, taking courses, listening to books/podcasts, anything I could get my hands on.
And it was as if I had an entirely new profession.
Since then I have closed over 100 enterprise opportunities, been rep of the year, closed multiple million-dollar opportunities, and cumulatively earned over a million dollars.
I absolutely love sales. It’s the best career you can possibly have. Not only can you earn life-changing money, but you get incredible freedom in your life and career. You have the opportunity to travel, meet interesting people, and make a serious difference in the world of business.
