Draughtsman at Udemy
Born and raised in Johannesburg South Africa, I always had an interest in engineering and design.
Both my father and grandfather were technically-minded people and my interest in designing grew in high school where I had a wonderful teacher who encouraged me to always try my best in my engineering drawing and design.
After school, I did a one-year course in draughting where I got exposed to CAD (Computer Aided Drawing).
I did a one-week introduction to AutoCAD and knew that I wanted to pursue a career in this industry.
Although I had some knowledge about AutoCAD, I knew that Autodesk Inventor was the software that I wanted to specialize in. In 2011, the year after my studies, I found my first draughting job. One of the minimum requirements was that I had to be familiar with Inventor.
I desperately wanted the job, wanted the opportunity to work with this software, so I told my interviewer that I will be willing to work there for a lot less than the advertised salary.
Thankfully they hired me and there my self-taught knowledge of Autodesk Inventor started. I had a deadline in which I had to become fully competent with the software and thankfully I made it.
It has been 10 years now since I started working in this industry and I am loving it more and more every year. I try to constantly improve myself and there are so much happening in the 3D modelling and design industry that I believe that there is a big future ahead for anybody entering into this industry
