About me
Libby James has spent years in the book world, writing, editing, publishing, and supporting other writers as they shape their work and move through the industry. She understands the moving pieces of a manuscript, from the first draft to the final polished work.
Her background spans both freelance publishing and library services, giving her a rare mix of creative and logistical expertise. Working in public, college, and school libraries gave her an inside look at the book market, including what readers gravitate toward, what’s missing, and how trends shift over time. She has helped with ordering and selecting materials, ensuring that collections reflect both current demand and overlooked voices.
As an editor, she has worked across genres, helping writers refine their stories, tighten their prose, and prepare their work for publication. As a self-published author, she understands the challenges of the industry firsthand, managing timelines, formatting, marketing, and making sure a book reaches readers.
Libby is a longtime supporter of small and indie publishing, as well as the DIY underground arts scene. She spent years in the zine world writing Sour Girl and The Way Fish Love, as well as supporting local slam poetry contests and other literary events.
She writes Letters From Libby James, a weekly newsletter helping writers strengthen their craft, understand publishing, and turn their art into activism.
Her essays, poetry, and short stories have appeared in literary journals across the country, including Hanging Loose, Quail Bell, Monday Night, Sin Fronteras/Writers Without Borders, DASH, and Matter.
