My name is Kobby Harding and I am so happy to meet you!
I am a performing artist from Ghana with an interest in African contemporary and pop dance, acting and crafts such as painting and ceramics. My dance works engages and serves as a new bridge in adding on to dance vocabularies, where movements are obtained from living and nonliving things.
My inspiration is extracted from the exposure from different dance groups and cultures from all around the world. One of my strong admiration is nature, I like to explore animal movements, and I also enjoy abstract works in painting, architecture and craft, antique work of art and the capabilities of the human body.
I have a strong belief that the human body has a basic connection with whatever it sees or comes in contact with, which creates an abstract communication from within (the mind) before the final reaction is made visible for man to see with the eyes, if it is good or bad, nice or ugly, understood or seen as an enigma.
I graduated from my BA in Theatre Art from the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana and my MA on Intercultural Communication Studies at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, China.
I have been working in the National Theatre of Ghana for 4 years and have been teaching dance for 8 years. On of my major projects staged was in April 2017. The title was ASOBOYA and this project was an experimental research which looked at the extent to which animal gestures could be incorporated in African contemporary dance.
I am so excited to start learning with you and together create the Afro Dance Body, let's do this!
