Kim Adonis is an economist with 15 years of professional experience in impact assessment and economic modelling. She is a technical specialist and focuses on economic impact modelling. Kim’s experience multi-sectoral and includes the water, transport, logistics, urban & built environment, aviation, oil & gas sectors and manufacturing.

Kim specialises in economic appraisal and analysis using quantitative methods (including Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA), Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) modelling and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling) for assessing the potential economic impact of implementing projects and policies with the aim of enabling decision-making that is driven by data.

Kim has led economic impact assessments across a vast range of sectors for the following clients: the dtic, National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC), two large multinational companies in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, the CEOs Initiative for manufacturing in South Africa, Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID), Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury, South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA), PetroSA, Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), UK Department of International Development (DFID), Passenger Rail Association of South Africa (PRASA) and the Western Cape Provincial Treasury.

She was the Manager of the Infrastructure & PPP Practice at Genesis Analytics from 2015 to 2018, in this role Kim lead the economic impact modelling for transaction advisors for a range of PPP projects. Prior to joining Genesis, Kim was the Group Economist for a private investment company and led the economics portfolio for transaction advisory for large infrastructure projects in the transport sector. Kim was also a Senior Economist and Water Sector Leader at KPMG South Africa. Kim was part of KPMG’s Global Infrastructure team and much of her experience involved the economic appraisal of large infrastructure projects and PPPs.

Kim was also formerly the Deputy Director of Economic Analysis at a provincial treasury in South Africa. Kim is currently a Director of an education-based non-profit organization called the Lefika Foundation that focuses on educational interventions in low income communities. Kim was awarded a Public Private Partnership Fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Foundation and a Clinton Democracy Fellowship, and holds a Master’s degree in Economics from WITS.
