Joan has over 15 years work experience in Not-for-Profit organisations including national and international not-for-profit organisations and a public university.
She has been responsible for stewardship of grants/awards at local and international charities as well as at a public university. At the public university she was responsible for both pre and post award grant management including administration. Specifically, she was sourcing for funding opportunities relevant for the institution along with the researchers and, the eventual management of successful awards.
She has been responsible for grants and contract management worth over $30m from funders like DFID, European Commission, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, SIDA, Irish Aid and even individual supporters. She has also supported fundraising efforts worth over $20m from funders like DFID, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, National Institute of Health and a local corporate company.
Joan is passionate about building skills in grant writing, fundraising, grants and research management in not-for-profit environments. Over the years she has trained over 250 participants including researchers, research administrators and staff within institutions she worked for involving implementing partners or sub grantees staff in grant writing, fundraising, financial management and, grants and contract management.
