For the past 23 years, I’ve had the extraordinary privilege of bridging cultures through the beauty of the Chinese language. Let me highlight a few unique aspects of my background.
First and foremost, I might be the only Mandarin instructor in the world who holds both:
1. Level1-A Mandarin Proficiency Certification. (Professional teachers need to be 3rd level, the L2-A)
and
2. A Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Peking University.
This unique combination allows me to train Chinese teachers in pronunciation while also simplifying advanced techniques for learners like you.
With over 20,000 teaching hours under my belt, my experience is quite rare in the education field. Typically, even full-time university professors may not reach this level of teaching after 40 years of service. To put it into perspective, 20,000 hours is equivalent to teaching non-stop for 65 semesters! Every mispronounced syllable and confused tone I’ve corrected has sharpened my ability to understand the challenges you may face in learning.
My students include notable figures such as Viktor Axelsen, the Danish badminton world champion, who can confidently give interviews in Mandarin on CCTV5 thanks to my guidance, including his Chinese name, 安赛龙 (ān sài lóng). I’ve also had the honor of teaching European royalty like Princess Laura de Belgique. Among my students are many foreign ambassadors, multinational executives, sinologists, astronaut candidates, and even Nobel Prize nominee. It’s a privilege to contribute to the success of such a diverse group.
Throughout my teaching journey, I’ve learned that mastering phonetics isn’t just about rules; it’s about musicality. Having taught diplomats and engineers at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences in Germany, I’ve come to appreciate the rhythm and melody inherent in language learning.
I hope my experiences and teaching methods can help you on your journey to mastering Chinese.
