About me
I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and learned to read by Phonics in the Anchorage School District. My daughters also learned to read by Phonics in Alaska. After moving to Colorado for my husband's new job, we enrolled our son, Casey in public school. He read aloud to me from his Reader, but I could tell he had memorized the words from a picture. This was not Phonics- or 'real reading'!. I soon found out this was the 'Look-Say' method taught in many states since 1929! How lucky I was to learn Phonics. We removed Casey from public school and homeschooled him teaching Phonics and all the state-required subjects through high school. He went on to the 'Running Start' program in Washington State which gives all students in public school or homeschool the opportunity to attend 2 years of free college if they pass the entrance exam.
Casey is now a successful Top 1 % businessman who works in finance and lending, employing 3 assistants out of his own pocket.
I wrote a paperback book sold on Amazon called, "How to Teach Phonics: A Strong Phonics-First Approach to Teaching Reading and Spelling". I have tutored several students successfully using the method in my paperback, which is the same as this teaching video: Solve Reading Problems with Phonics- both outside the classroom as a volunteer, in a public school as a volunteer, and in an isolated historical village school teaching Phonics to first through third graders with pay.
I also love to garden both vegetables and flowers. I have a dog and two cats and I often raise chickens. I have so far, 9 grandchildren (two of which I gave remedial phonics instruction to).
I plan to produce more courses in elementary arithmetic and reading.
