Hayley Needham has been training horses for 15 years, starting in South Africa where she was born. Her work with horses took her to places Japan, Portugal, and the Netherlands, before she began to travel to more remote parts of Africa like Namibia and Zimbabwe to help horse owners who had less access to equine professionals.
Hayley started out as a horsemanship trainer, starting young horses under saddle and restarting troubled horses. She soon developed an interest in equine biomechanics due to the growing realization that many of the horses that came to her with behavioral issues, were in fact struggling with pain and discomfort due to incorrect posture and improper muscle development.
This led her to explore many different modalities of bodywork and eventually to develop her own method, which was initially designed to be performed by her horsemanship students who lived in remote areas in the African bush where equine professionals like bodyworkers were less likely to travel. The method is effective, but non-invasive enough to be safe for horse owners to do themselves.
Hayley began traveling to teach simple workshops educating owners and trainers about anatomy and how to support their horses with bodywork. After doing this for a few years, the demand increased and she decided to create an online course in order to reach more people.
Hayley now lives in Cape Town, South Africa, where she still teaches horsemanship, biomechanics, and bodywork. She has one horse and a dog, and is also a performing musician.
