Dr. Hafez Selim, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist with nearly two decades of experience in medical device and drug safety. For almost ten years he was Medical Advisor and Safety Physician in the spine division of Osteotech and Medtronic, where he led safety for rhBMP-2 clinical trials, oversaw the safety of a broad spinal implant portfolio, and pioneered the first 510(k) clearance for PEEK rods through a meta-analysis of safety and effectiveness data. He now works in drug safety and clinical development at a global pharmaceutical company, covering benefit–risk assessment, signal evaluation and periodic safety reporting. He earned his MD at Ain Shams University and his PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology at Temple University School of Medicine. He holds four patents in biomaterial technologies, and he is the author of Becoming a Medical Device Safety Specialist and other books from Selim Medical Press. His courses teach the hands-on tasks of the safety role, not just the theory.
