I am a classically trained oil painter and fine artist. I studied painting and drawing at the Florence Academy of Art; an art atelier in Florence, Italy; where I spent three inspiring years learning everything I could about the techniques and materials used by the Old Masters whom I greatly admire, such as Titian, Velazquez and Van Dyke; master artists that we can learn so much from and who’s paintings have stood the test of time due to their combination of incredible technical ability and sublime beauty. I love painting in this style, and teaching it :)
Academic art is endlessly fascinating and provides us with unlimited learning potential. As far as you want to go, you can always go further. It’s amazing seeing my students progress and to help them understand academic concepts and methods. It also keeps me learning; I am a practicing artist with an art studio in London where I undertake portrait commissions, and if I’m not there, you will find me travelling and painting landscapes en plein-air.
I believe acquiring skills of draughtsmanship is a valuable undertaking, as it gives you the ability to paint or draw anything, it also gives you the freedom to develop your practice and personal style, to make conscious decisions about your work and add many techniques and methods to your painting toolbox.
Learning how to draw and paint in a representational style is an artistic life skill. I believe every artist can benefit from studying classical painting and drawing and I hope to share what I've learned with you in an easy to understand and informative way.
