I hold a Master of Science Degree in Literacy Education, as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Management, and an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy. I started out working as a Respiratory Therapist, and was subsequently invited to teach a college-level clinical course where I supervised and taught preservice respiratory students in the Intensive Care Units of three local hospitals.
That’s where I found my love of teaching.
Then one of my children was diagnosed with the learning disability of dyslexia, and I transitioned to school education, completing my education degrees. I taught elementary students, and preservice teachers at the college level. I also helped an underfunded school obtain 5,000 books for their school library and directed 125 volunteer reading tutors over three years, increasing the school’s reading scores from 11% to 43% passing rate on state assessments.
From there, I spent the next 16 years working for global education publishers, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and McGraw Hill as a reading and math consultant and trainer. In these roles, I have created, presented, and trained on-site and online programs for reading, math, and social-emotional learning to students, teachers, conferences, and colleges.
