About me
Dr. Rathnasiri A. Hewage is a senior physician leader, medical administrator, and international healthcare consultant with nearly 30 years of experience spanning clinical medicine, public health, hospital leadership, medical education, and pharmaceutical ethics.
He holds MBBS, MSc (Medical Administration), and MD (Medical Administration) degrees from the University of Colombo, along with specialized training in pharmaceutical promotion ethics, drug safety, clinical trials, good clinical practice (GCP), public procurement, and health policy from leading global institutions including FDA (USA), WHO Academy, Harvard School of Public Health, MIT, Johns Hopkins University, University of Hong Kong, and Universiteit Leiden.
Dr. Hewage is the Immediate Former Director of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, one of Sri Lanka’s largest tertiary care hospitals, where he led major reforms in governance, quality, finance, and service delivery—achieving historic revenue growth and operational turnaround during periods of national economic crisis and COVID-19. He has also served as Country Director/CEO of the National Institute for Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation, and as Healthcare Director of Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, the country’s national pediatric referral center.
Internationally, he has worked as a Research Fellow at California State University, Long Beach (USA) and as a Performance Improvement Specialist within the US healthcare system, contributing to accreditation, patient safety, and evidence-based care models.
Currently, Dr. Hewage is the Lead Consultant at MedAffairs Advisory, where he designs and delivers ethics-centered training programs for pharmaceutical professionals, medical representatives, and healthcare leaders. His work focuses on ethical pharmaceutical communication, compliant field practice, medical affairs strategy, and scientifically responsible engagement with healthcare professionals—bridging global best practices with real-world field realities in emerging markets.
He is a Certified Postgraduate Trainer and Examiner at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, and a member of the International Association for Public Health Logisticians (IAPHL). He has contributed to national policy manuals, clinical guidelines, and training curricula, including Sri Lanka’s Hospital Administration Manual and Chronic Kidney Disease Screening Guidelines.
