About me
Dr. Rashid Saif, serving as Associate Professor, Chairperson-Department of Life Sciences, and Director-ORIC at Qarshi University, Lahore, Pakistan, earned the prestigious ESKAS postdoc fellowship in Molecular Genetics & Bioinformatics at the University of Bern, Switzerland. At the Institute of Genetics, his research centered on NGS whole-genome sequencing data for selective sweep analysis in different livestock species employing Linux Bash, R, Ruby/Python scripting.
Dr. Rashid earned his PhD in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from UVAS, Lahore, Pakistan. His doctoral research, conducted at the "Feline Genetics & Comparative Genomics Lab" at the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, focused on GWAS using SNP-chip data to investigate progressive retinal atrophy and mammary tumors in Felis catus, employing the PLINK data analysis toolset. After completing his doctorate, he joined the Virtual University of Pakistan as an Assistant Professor and later served as Associate Professor at Gulab Devi Educational Complex, Lahore. Dr. Rashid’s research focuses on identifying genomic selection signatures and trait/disease-associated DNA variants in livestock, plants, and the human species. He also specializes in developing bioinformatics pipelines for multi-omics data analysis, leveraging Linux, R, and AI/ML algorithms to unlock genetic potential and study comparative genomics across species.
With research collaborations at esteemed institutions such as Langston University-USA, University of Bern-Switzerland, Tabuk University-KSA, Washington State University, and University of Missouri-Columbia-USA, Dr. Rashid pursues innovative research projects of mutual interest. He mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students across biotechnology, biochemistry, zoology, microbiology, medical lab technology, and molecular pathology. Dr. Rashid has an extensive scholarly record with ~70 publications in peer-reviewed reputable journals, including one book entitled “Bioinformatics”, and has presented his research at national and international forums, including conferences, seminars and workshops in Pakistan, Japan, USA and Switzerland.
