About me
As a licensed chiropractor, Dr. Darlene Buan-Basit has been examining and treating babies using gentle techniques to help babies breastfeed better, and support the family in their new journey.
For over 18 years, Dr. Buan-Basit has worked as a chiropractor and Pilates instructor in Toronto helping a wide range of people such as injured athletes, professional NHL players, babies, children and active seniors.
When Dr. Buan-Basit had a baby with a tongue tie, and she learned the challenges and lack of knowledge. Dr. Buan-Basit began researching and taking courses to understand and develop manual therapy treatment techniques based on a baby’s clinical history and physical exam. Dr. Buan-Basit has since focused on helping babies with tongue ties and supporting their families.
Dr. Buan-Basit is trained in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Active Release Technique, Activator Methods, Crainal Sacral Therapy, Advanced Massage Techniques, Activator Method and other various myofascial release techniques. She is also certified and trained in movement therapies: Pilates, yoga, Garuda, MELT, Hypopressives Low Pressure Fitness in order to help people move better.
Dr. Buan-Basit works closely with International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC), often providing co-treatment to difficult cases. Dr. Buan-Basit provides manual therapy to babies pre and post frenotomy, and assist moms with other breastfeeding issues. Dr. Buan-Basit has consolidated her research, training and clinical experience into courses and publications. She works collaboratively with IBCLCs, dentists, midwives, doulas, occupational therapists to help breastfeeding families. Recently she has developed and presented a workshop on Breastfeeding Solutions - Techniques to help babies breastfeed better!
Currently Dr. Buan-Basit is finishing her certification as an (IBCLC) and is on the Board of the International Constorium of Ankylofrenula Professions (ICAP) with a mission to promote best practices around the world to help people with tongue ties.
Prior to chiropractic, Dr. Buan-Basit graduated with a B.A.Sc Hon in Occupational Health and Safety, and a minor in Human Resource Management. It was while working in the manufacturing industry that Dr. Darlene realized she wanted to work directly with injured workers. So she returned to school and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2003.
