About me
Self-Reliance can be an urban or rural concept. The skills taught at Wild Harvest empower you to provide for your and your families basic needs just using some easily accessible and natural resources around you. You will therefore reduce your reliance on bought-in goods and services.
Your tutor, Di Hammill was raised by her grandfather and father in an unconventional childhood for a little girl in the 70’s. Self-reliance and make-do and mend were the mainstays of her childhood, she then chose to raise her own three children alone in a remote off-grid caravan in the wild North Yorks moors.
Di has been teaching for over twenty years, is a qualified adult education tutor, permaculture designer, poultry and pet sheep keeper, survival medic trained, natural beekeeper, qualified archery instructor and NNAS navigation tutor, and respected wild food foraging and survival skills tutor.
Wild Harvest School was established in 2006 teaching people how to weave baskets, forage wild food, make candles and rag-rugs, make natural toiletries and wild medicine and give general downshifting advice for people looking to transit to a more natural and simple self-sufficient lifestyle.
Having moved from the N.Y Moors and now operating from two off-grid sustainable education tipi sites in Yorkshire, UK with 26 beds - Wild Harvest has grown from strength to strength. Di feels this is due to a growing awareness of people that they need to re-skill and reconnect with the traditional life skills rapidly being lost.
