I am a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) and a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP) practicing holistic medicine most of my life.
Functional Medicine bioenergetic approach is my foundational approach to health.
Starting from early teens I was looking for a system which would keep me in balance (healthy). Yoga, Taichi, Qigong, Martial arts, diets, Acupuncture, naturopathy, dietary supplements. The only part which was missing in my approach to stay healthy was how to address internal imbalances/illnesses. …And then I discovered Functional Medicine! Finally everything fell into place.
Here is my overall approach to health: Energy drives function. Our daily energy expenditure = Base Metabolic Rate + Essential Movements + Other physical activities. So where we get energy from? We eat food (calories). Food we eat gets into GI tract, digested and gets into systemic circulation and so becomes fuel so to speak. This fuel is available for mitochondria (our engine) to burn into cellular energy (ATP) and that cellular energy is available to all our cells to use to perform their functions. So any dysfunction in any of the systems involved in energy production will result in insufficient energy available to our body to perform its functions. And that’s where dysfunctions start. I use Functional Medicine approach to investigate and figure out where in the energy production system there is an imbalance or dysfunction (root cause), and then if possible to find a treatment to address this issue.
