Ario Bimo Utomo is an assistant professor at the Department of International Relations, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Jawa Timur, Indonesia. He specialises in diplomacy, particularly by cities and de facto states.
Ario is a published author, having written books and journal articles in the field of International Relations. He also has a five-year experience in teaching Diplomacy as a course subject for undergraduate students. Prior to that, he was also an assistant lecturer at the Department of International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Apart from teaching, Ario is also a researcher. He began his career as an assistant researcher at the ASEAN Studies Center Universitas Gadjah Mada. At the moment, he is a researcher at the Center for Identity and Urban Studies, a study center that focuses on the study of international urban issues. There, he carries out projects related to inter-city relations in collaboration with several government agencies such as the US Consulate General, the Kitakyushu City Government, and the Surabaya City Government.
