Alejandro is a Medico Tradicional or Traditional Indigenous Medicine Medic, as the official term in Mexico. Her is a curandero and Ajq’ij, or Mayan priest or day-keeper.
For over 24 years, he has walked the path of indigenous medicine and spirituality, working alongside his Elder teachers and supporting communities in Mexico with traditional healing.His understanding of the need for ancestral indigenous approaches in today’s world and keen fascination and awareness of the psyche, drives his passion to share elements of his experience with the world.
His Zapotec (zapoteca del Istmo de Tehuantepec) and Mayan (from Chiapas) blood lineages have pushed him into this direction.
He has been a student of Julio Reyes Aguilar and Maria Eugenia Aguilar Castro, recognized healers and collaborators of 1 Ukush, of Manuel and Lupe Garcia, respected Zapotec healers of the Oaxacan highlands; Angela Mendez, Zapotec healer, author and recognized herbalist; Tata Carlos Morales, Mayan Ajq’ij.
Alejandro, having zapotec and mayan blood himself, has worked to spread indigenous wisdom, spirituality and culture through diverse projects with institutions such as: Fundación Dondé, Festival Cumbre Tajín / PUIC UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), Fundación Justicia y Género.
Course Creator and Teacher / Sofia, or Sofi, as many of her students and friends call her, has been walking this path since she was a child.
She is the founder of Mayahuelcalli A.C., a clinic and school of traditional Mexican medicine in Morelos, Mexico for more than 20 years.
She was born in a Mayan Tzotzil community in Los Altos se Chiapas into a family of traditional doctors.
She has traveled throughout Mexico, the United States and Europe to share her ancestral knowledge through diploma courses and workshops for any person or group open to learn this medicine. From indigenous communities, schools and universities, among others.
Her courses are endorsed by the Autonomous University of Morelos.
