Ailin Iwan was born and raised in Indonesia. She is a third generation Chinese. She immigrated to the United States when she was a teenager. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California Berkeley in Architecture with double minors in Business and City Planning. Her first building design project was The Globe Cultural Mall in Fremont, California where she served as Design Director. Her interest in children and their education was sparked by her volunteering activity as a Sunday School teacher. She, then, pursuit educational field professionally and went back to school for her Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Global Citizenship Education. Ailin published her first children book titled, Venus the Global Child: Family Nicknames in April 2010. She was a pre-school teacher . Presently, Ailin is a PhD candidate at Hong Kong University. Her proposed research is: "Bio-Architectural Design that Maximize Children Development".
Ailin believes that education is a life time process and it has to start from the very young ones. Her own mixed cultural background as Chinese Indonesian American motivates her to conduct research and writes about multiculturalism and global citizenship. "Negotiating the meaning of Global Citizenship" is her first published article that she presented in front of educators in International teachers conference in Kaohsiung Taiwan, summer 2011. Presently, Ailin is working on two children books: The Righteous Star and The Frog Prince in His Little Kingdom. Ailin's goal is to continue her work in education to benefit children and young adults to be responsible and skillful global citizens.
