How to Download a Free Trial of Maya | Maya Animation Course

Lecture description

We'll be using the 2018 version of Autodesk Maya in this course. To follow along and use the project files, you'll need to use the 2018 version (or newer - if you're watching this course in the future).

You can download a free trial version of Maya for 30-days on Autodesk's website. Google: Autodesk Maya Free Trial (Udemy won't let me create a link in this description unfortunately.)

If you're enrolled at a school then you're eligible for a free 1-year student copy of Maya!

I recommend purchasing the new offer from Autodesk for an Indie License. It's a fraction of the old cost and it's a full version of Maya.

*Note Maya LT is a limited/light version of Maya that does not have all the features of Maya. We use Maya in this course, not Maya LT.

Hi and welcome to this updated version of the lesson on how to and where to get Maya. Maya is a software created by Autodesk so you can go to autodesk.com/free-trials to get a free trial of Maya. Now if you're a student and you can prove that through their criteria that they require on their website, you can get a full version of Maya for one year for free. If you're a student, the only thing that it has is a little pop up window that says this is a student version of Maya. You can't use it for commercial purposes, which means you can't make money using that software by the work you do with it. The next best option is the indie license and that you can get if you go. Currently the URL is make anything autodesk.com/maya-indie. Now the indie license is a relatively new thing and was and is celebrated by the Maya community because it is so much cheaper than the other license that you can get. Maya Indie has no restrictions except for how much money you can make. I think it's maybe $100,000 or it varies depending on the country that you're living in. Details will be on the site after you pick what country you're in and download the software. But basically it's a full version of Maya. There's no lack of features and it is one tenth to 1/12 as expensive as the traditional license. And so that's why it was so celebrated when they decided to take the indie license and offer it to more people. It was just something they did on a trial basis and they decided to keep it around. So grab it while you can. It's a one year license for roughly us $250, and that price varies depending on the country you're in. Now, The alternative, the final option that you have that I doubt anyone will pick if they have the indie version available is the full subscription of Maya, which is $1,620. So the indie license is a steal based on the traditional pricing that we're used to with Maya. So I highly, highly recommend you go grab the indie license on the make anything autodesk.com/maya-indie website. And if you're not sure if you want to put down even that $250 or whatever it may be for the country you're in, definitely get the free trial for 30 days and you can see get through some of this course and see if it's something you want to continue to pursue and put down that that money to get the indie license. But I encourage you, if you are interested and you're committed to learning and using Maya on a yearly basis, $250 per year is a bit of a steal. So definitely go check that out. Thanks for watching this updated lesson on how and where to get Autodesk. Maya and I will continue to update things as they change. This course was made in 20 18.6 Maya version. The latest as of recording this lesson is Maya 20 20.4. Not much has changed between the version that you're watching in this course and the version available today from 2018 to 2020. There's not been a ton of updates in the core features of Maya, so everything still applies. And as there's new features, I will update the course and we'll do my best there. So thanks for watching and I will see you in the next lesson.
