### Course Description

**April 2016 update** The course has been redesigned from scratch. Hope you guys enjoy!

Welcome to Ultimate guide to maths word problems - Beginners Part One. This course is tailored towards Grade 6 and 7 students who're looking to get a leg up on their ability to tackle the dreaded word problems. This will always be a FREE course. Once you've completed it and would like to test your skills further, then have a go at the Ultimate guide to maths word problems - Beginners Part Two course.

What are word problems?

We all learn basic concepts like fractions, decimals, algebra etc. at school. We know how to add fractions or simplify algebraic expressions, but what stumps us is having to apply our knowledge to "real life scenarios". These are word problems. I'm sure you've come across these during your schooling. For example, if Lisa gets paid \$17 an hour on the weekends and \$13.50 per hour on weekdays, how much does she earn if she works for 5 hours during the week and 12 hours on Sunday? Show full working.

This is a typical algebra-style word problem. No idea how to do this? Then let me help :)

A lot of students find these types of practical questions quite challenging to answer as they have trouble linking their basic knowledge of algebra and numbers in this case to the word problems.

Every topic that I cover in this course will come up in some form in years to come. I go through every single topic in a step by step form so it's really easy for you to follow along. Not convinced? Then I suggest you check out the previews before you decide to enroll, to make sure my teaching style is easy to follow, I am very confident that it is. To go a step further, Udemy's 30-day money back guarantee should also make you feel at ease.

What will the course have?

This particular course is geared towards students in Grade 6 and 7. I will go through a number of problem solving / word problem questions, split into the different topics listed below. I go through each question in a systematical step by step manner making it super easy to follow along and adopt in your own workings.

What topics will the course cover?

The course will cover most topics that come up in these grades and are prone to have a lot of worded problems attached to them.

General numbers, fractions, geometry, decimals, percentages, algebra, measurement and probability.

**WARNING** I'm going to assume knowledge of how to perform the actual operations involved with these word problems. This course is only to show how to approach the word problems, NOT the operations behind them.

My next course is Ultimate guide to Maths Word Problems - Beginners Part Two, where I will work through topics and questions, typically covered at the Grade 8 level i.e. one level harder than this course.

Why did I decide to create two beginner courses?

If you're wondering this then that was because I saw that the level of difficulty increases considerably from Grade 7 to Grade 8 so instead of piling everything into one course and confuse you, I decided to create two different ones so you could gradually go up in levels :)

Something missing in the course?

If you find I haven't covered a topic that you need at this level, let me know on the discussion board and I'll be happy to add it in :)

I can guarantee that you'll be miles ahead of the competition if you take this course seriously and best part about being able to do it all is that you can teach others as well. When you're willing to spend upwards of \$50 an hour for a private tutor, it seems like a no brainer to at least give this a go, so that you have access to your very own private tutor any time you wish.

I'm good with messages and emails so if you have questions, make sure to get in touch with me. And furthermore, I want you guys to make full use of the discussion board because one of the best ways to learn is by sharing your knowledge with others. Thanks guys, really hope you enjoy.

# Instructor Biography

Hi guys, my name is Adi Chanda. I've been teaching maths for almost 10 years now to students of all ages. My experience has given me some great insights on what works for students and what doesn't. After seeing a number of students struggle with basic high school maths, I decided to upload these step by step instructional videos that take you through some of the basic maths topics.

I decided to create the 'Chanda Academy', with the hopes of one day providing access to these videos to people all around the world, who don't have access to quality education today. I want to harness the power of the internet and bring these courses to anyone and everyone so that there can be more empowered adults in the world going forward.

As for the videos themselves, I only employ methods that have been tried and tested over the years so I'm confident that these will be an invaluable tool for anyone looking for that leg up in their maths knowledge. I have plans to grow the library of videos on Chanda Academy by collaborating with experts in other fields like Science, History etc. in the future. I want it to be a one-stop shop for students worldwide.

Personally, I love teaching Maths to students of all ages so I couldn't think of a better way to make an impact on a global scale. I want to continuously create great resources for you guys, so please feel free to provide any suggestions you may have. I'm going to make up a ton of courses across a wide variety of topics at all levels. If there are specific topics you'd like me to cover definitely let me know.

What are my qualifications?

I have an Electrical Engineering degree and work as a technical product manager in a leading telco company here in Melbourne, Australia, making maths a vital part of my everyday life. I fell into teaching almost accidentally when I was 18; I loved it so much that I decided to start doing it more professionally and have been tutoring ever since. I've had some really great successes over the years but I was dissatisfied with only being able to reach students locally. Then I heard about Udemy...and well as they say the rest is history :)

I love hearing from you guys so please don't be shy and send me a message with whatever's on your mind...doesn't even have to be Maths related :)
