What value is a teacher that only tells his students what to know but doesn't actually teach them how to learn? By the end of this course, I want you all to be capable of intelligently creating your own basic workouts and workout programs that will be effective without hiring a personal trainer.
Carbs, carbs, and carbs.. are literally all we hear about these days. We moved away from fat fearing to carb criticizing and for good reason too. I want to shed a little bit of light on this topic and talk about good vs. bad carbs and how we can tell what is what. There have been many studies showing a direct correlation to carbohydrate consumption and heart disease and diabetes. Carbs are one of the more important macronutrients when talking about building muscle and having energy so we need to learn what carbs we can eat and what carbs will shorten our lives.
It's a secret! Truth is.. you no longer have to listen to so called fitness guru's about how you can never do this one behavior ever again. In fact, it is recommended that you do this every few weeks as hard as you can!
A manual for calculating your personal macronutrients. I discuss specific macronutrient ratios depending on your body composition goals. Don't forget the homework below!
Contrary to what your average personal trainer believes... sometimes cutting your calories is not going to get the job done! There is so much more involved with dieting and changing your body composition than just decreasing the amount of food you eat. In fact, dieting for too long or in too much of a deficit can damage metabolic function and increase fat storing hormones. Watch this video and make sure you cover all of your bases. If you still cannot lose weight, which would be very surprising, you should consult with your primary care physician.
There is nothing worse than slow recovery times and nagging injuries. Here I talk about some ways to prevent injuries as well as how to heal quicker from intense workouts.
Examples of meals with personal recipes and some quick tips on succeeding at your macro lifestyle. Big thanks to Taylor who actually created this powerpoint!
I demonstrate a quick interval style workout that you can do in the absence of a gym that does not require running. Remember, HIIT is short so make sure by the end of your workout you are wiped out. Your body will recover much quicker from a HIIT workout so do not be afraid to leave it all out there because unlike a long workout you will feel better after a 15 minute workout as soon as you hydrate and eat your post workout meal. A longer workout like hour long runs can leave you feeling depleted for hours even after you replenish yourself.
Discusses the proper times to eat your meals and why!
Realistic approach to having a healthy relationship between fitness lifestyle and social lifestyle. Eating out is definitely still possible and is a great way to stay motivated.
Pre-med Scholar, Personal Trainer, Crossfit Enthusiast and Past Competitor, and Avid Fitness Junkie! I am in a serious relationship with Taylor, my best friend and partner in crime. What makes me the happiest about personal training and fitness is that it is entirely a mental venture. Genetics determine your height, your voice, the size of your breasts, etc.. but genetics do not determine how you choose to redefine yourself through fitness. you are the only person that can prevent you from reaching your goals. All I am here for is to give you the proper tools to put your body and mind to work.
