Born and raised in Shanghai, China, I cultivated a love for language acquisition at an early age. It led me to pursue college studies in the US, which then prepared me to become a Mandarin teacher at a US high school. I then was able to hone my teaching skills through a Masters degree in Teaching a Foreign Language. Having taught full-time for over 9 years at two different schools, I've become an experienced Mandarin teacher with my own unique style and methods.

While learning a language, especially a language as complicated as Mandarin Chinese, takes serious work and there's no shortcuts, I have found ways to make it also fun and effective. I design my own curricula, which allow students to jump into the learning process and acquire useful, adaptable phrases immediately. I like to come up with mnemonics for memorizing vocabulary and encourage my students to think of their own. With pronunciation, I use clear instructions and animated videos to illustrate how a sound is made. I can explain complex grammar structures in simple terms and compare and contrast them with structures in English.
