I was educated as a chemical engineer and got my BS and MS in that field. I specialized in automated process control in graduate school. Upon graduating I went to work for Procter and Gamble as a process control engineer where I designed and installed control systems in the paper division. That led to leading a process information project automating all the information needed by the machine operators. I got an offer from Digital Equipment Corporation to lead the CPG marketing efforts. That was interesting but just did not keep my fancy, so after a few years I left and led an effort at Kraft Foods to consolidate their specification systems across the various divisions in Kraft. After Kraft I started at IBM as a business transformation consultant. In that role I was one of several who created the management system for business transformation, including creating the website, training, help desk and managing requirements for the tooling development team. I had the opportunity to get my LSS black belt after that and led several projects improving the performance of some of our key pain points, such as the IBM help desk, contract management and others. That led to being appointed as an enterprise agile coach where I developed and provided training to hundred of development teams. This led to conducting strategy and business improvement workshops where VSM was found to be a very efficient way to find where opportunities were and what the impact could be. I also got certified as a Scrum Master and Product Owner. Now I am in the process of finding a new opportunity and seeing this VSM course as a fun thing to do that might lead to bigger things.
