RAFAEL LEAL is a storyteller, producer and filmmaker based in Berlin. Creator and head-writer of the series “Passinho - the rhythm of the dreams” (Disney+), Rafael has been involved in dozens of screenworks in the last decade, with highlights to the series “Jungle Pilot” (NBC/Universal), the feature film “Too Soon” (Star+) and the VR “Aleijadinho Virtual” (Studio KwO). Holding a PhD in Film and Media from UFF (Brazil) with a DAAD-funded doctoral exchange at LMU München (Germany), Rafael has often acted as a consultant for films, such as the hit “The Hijacking of Flight 375” (Star+) and mentored more than 350 screenwriters in programs such as Netflix’s Segundo Ato, for new black and indigenous voices. Co-founder and lead producer of the Brazilian production company Dédalo, Rafael produced the short films “Dive”, screened in more than 80 festivals, and recently “Waterfront Memories”, in post-production. His new project, the VR documentary game “Privilege Game Show”, recently received funding from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and starts its production in early 2025. Currently, Rafael teaches at SRH University of Applied Arts, ifs - Internationale Filmschule Köln and Catalyst - Institute for Creative Technology Berlin.
