About me
I received my PhD in molecular biology in a collaborative program between the Universidade Federal Fluminense and Johns Hopkins University, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, in the United States. After working for over 10 years as a researcher, I changed the direction of my career to work with science communication (writing, editing, and science outreach). I worked as an associate editor at the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Science Magazine and as a scientific editor at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I've authored news pieces published in high impact journals such as Science, Lancet, Lancet Oncology, and Cell. I'm a member of the National Association of Science Writers, in the US and of the European Medical Writers Association. I now run Publicase International where I edit and write scientific papers and run workshops for early career scientists worldwide! I live in Lisbon with my family and my two dogs, Freddy and Bidu, and Pisco, the cat. You can google me to find out more about me!
