With over a decade of experience teaching Japanese as a foreign language at Canadian higher educational institutions, I am a dedicated instructor passionate about adult education and teaching Japanese language. Originally from Tokyo and a native Japanese speaker, I hold a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Education, and a Master of Arts from Canadian universities. Additionally, I studied engineering in Japan during my early years of schooling.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that everyone has the capacity to learn, though each person’s learning style and strengths are unique. I encourage students to embrace their individual learning journeys, emphasizing that progress is achieved by focusing on areas of improvement, regardless of how long it takes. After helping an elementary school classmate with a severe learning disability memorize a poem over the course of a month—while others did so in just a few days—I became a firm believer that persistence enables mastery of most fundamental skills.
With my undergraduate degree in mathematics, I also have experience teaching math to adults with limited mathematical backgrounds, as well as those facing challenges in the subject. Furthermore, I have over a decade of professional experience in the technology sector, and I am passionate about integrating technology into adult learning to enhance both students' learning experiences and outcomes. I have a particular interest in using educational technology in language learning.
