Karin Kroch is a professional Saxophonist, teacher, arranger and composer who lives and works in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia, Canada. She graduated from the University of Cape Town and has been a sought-after woodwind teacher since 2009, inspiring students from beginner to advanced levels to become confident, creative, and well-rounded performing artists. She is a composer and arranger of solo, ensemble and orchestral works and boasts an international performing career of note.

Since the age of 6 when she started her music career with piano, she has received multiple awards and prizes at eisteddfods and music competitions. She has performed with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at the annual Artscape Youth Music Festival, where she premiered Allan Stephenson’s Youth Concertino on Tenor Saxophone. In 2017 she premiered the winning composition of the Stefans Grove Composition Competition, The Blue Lady Sonata, at the opening of the Atterbury National Piano Competition on clarinet.

She holds a Performance Diploma (DipABRSM) and Licentiate (LRSM) from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, both passed with distinction. She has played in many orchestras and ensembles - including being principal clarinettist of the 2011 South African Sasol National Symphony Orchestra, principal tenor saxophonist of the UCT Wind Band, and baritone saxophonist for the South African National Youth Wind Ensemble. She has played in jazz and folk bands and has been a member of groups such as Georgetown, The Stolen Horses and The Red Rhapsody Jazz Band, also featuring on all their respective record albums. She has staged many solo shows featuring works for the saxophone and it is her passion to showcase the saxophone as one of the most emotional, dynamic and powerful woodwind instruments.
