Originally from Paris, I moved to the UK under the impression that school had taught me to speak English well enough... so how come I couldn't understand a word? And why did these people insist on greeting me with "Hey up, me duck?"

While I was spending all my time using any means possible to learn spoken English, I got literally bullied into teaching French by my neighbours.
