Gwern started from humble beginnings.

He helped his dad sell duck rice since he was 14 years old. He officially entered the workforce as a part-time waiter at 16 years old to help support his family while studying full-time. His strong work ethics and soft skills at that young age were already highly valued, and he was awarded "Waiter of the Year" and "Excellent Service Award" for two consecutive years before leaving to enlist in National Service.

He was the top student of his cohort, with a GPA of 3.96/4 and sweeping off all Top 3 Awards during graduation.

Gwern is also a multiple-award business leader and brings to the table a wealth of real-world entrepreneurial expertise shaped by a tenacious background in business. Recognized as a visionary business leader, he transformed an initial insight into a thriving F&B empire, renowned for its excellence and awarded recognition across international boundaries.

Gwern has been featured in numerous articles, magazines, interviews on national TV, newspapers and appeared in TV shows. He was invited overseas for business events by companies such as Michelin Guide and Singapore Airlines.

He was conferred a Fellowship by the sitting President of Singapore (Mdm Halima) in 2018.

In his free time, he enjoys painting, reading biographies, playing soccer, studying the stock market, going for long jogs, and spending time with his family.
