I was a news photographer and photo editor for more than 25 years, the last nine of which were spent as the national photo editor with ABC News Online (Australia).
Whilst at the ABC I developed a presentation for their journalists, showing how stories and photos are constructed the same. It was a simplified approach to photography but it worked, and this is what my course is based on.
You don't need to be a journalist to take this course. The techniques discussed apply to any photo ... holidays, at a party, with family and friends, even photographing your pet.
I've also delivered my presentation at schools and universities, and to photographers of all levels. Everyone loves the fact that photography is translated into a language we all understand: story-telling. I love it when I see the realisation in their faces: "Hey, I get it ... this works!"
My photography has taken me far and wide, including 5 1/2 years living and working in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the better part of a year hitchhiking all the way around Australia photographing everyone who gave me a lift and writing about each hitch.
I've published photography-related books, held exhibitions of my work and written a highly successful cruise / travel blog. I've spent many years lecturing about photography and talking about both my hitchhiking journey and life as a photographer.
I love passing on my knowledge of photography, so thank you if you take my course.
